We Have Only the Poems

“We have only the poems,

And we should not forget

The things we do not know.”

We do not know the poems

As beings of their own.

We dream of their poets.

We do not know the worlds

That the poems have let go.

We hope they will show us

But don’t know where poems go,

If they go beyond us.

We don’t know what they’ll know.
