Wait, There’s More

Somehow, humans early on
Intuited there was more
Than their senses were sensing
Within the world around them.

We have lived ever since then
Among great bestiaries
Of the invisible world—
Djinn fey ancestor demons,

Tutelary deities,
Messengers of divine love,
Crossroad loas and tricksters,
And now our good and bad bugs,

Our interlocking wavelengths
That, like ghosts and the devil,
Go straight through our skulls, barely
Pausing to possess our thoughts—

All the infusoria
We sense through our prosthetics
And believe in as we once
Believed in angels on pins.

We were right then and right now—
There’s more here than we can sense.
Even if not all agents,
It all seethes beyond all sense.
