That’s Not the World; That's Just Us
What would you write when
Someone announces
To the whole, wide world,
“I would pay fifty
Dollars for a hug
Right now,” and the whole,
Wide world re-echoes
With that cri-de-coeur
But never pauses
Its accusations,
Sly plotting, mayhem,
Boasts and evasions,
The wealthy moving
Bodies and accounts
Into safe havens,
The poor rioting,
The middle classes
Sheltering at home
And sending anxious
Messages, pigeons
To blacken the sky.
